Climate tech in Africa?💨 💵
Globally, there has been an increase in funding for climate tech startups. PwC reported that investments in climate tech surged globally in the first half of 2021 to $ 87.5 billion from $28 billion in the second half of the previous year.
The year 2022 recorded a rise in VC funding for green tech startups. Q2 2022 recorded a $1.4 billion investment in climate-focused startups. Venture capital funds like Y Combinator, Lowercarbon Capital, and Tech-stars contributed to the 47 per cent increase in investments in climate-tech startups in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year.
However African climate startups are significantly trailing behind their counterparts in the US, Canada, Europe, and China. The continent's climate tech ecosystem could only clinch 0.2% of that total global funding despite a surge in investment. Do you think climate tech has a future in Africa?
