Cyber insecurity in Africa!💻
Africa is rapidly evolving in terms of population, economy, and global relevance. Major debates regarding the continent's digital economy are centred on how quickly it is expanding and how much growth is required. But as the continent gets more wealthy and accelerates digitally, an increase in cyber crimes threatens economic growth.
Cybercrime is threatening Africa’s economy. Most economies in the continent lost 10 per cent of their GDPs to it in 2021, while the continent recorded $4 billion losses - 3.5 per cent of its $115 billion digital economy.
By 2050, analysts predict that the continent's digital economy will be worth $712 billion but if the cost of cybercrime continues, Africa may suffer an estimated of about $25 billion.Â
