Hello Venturer,Today is the 12th of June, a day set aside to commemorate Nigeria's return to democracy 22 years ago. However, today's celebration will be marred by the reality of Nigeriaās fragile democracy, apparent by the ongoing Twitter ban.Ā Instead of a celebration, there are planned protests around the country to demand an end to the ban. Democracy ought to guarantee freedom of speech and expression and the accountability of the government to its people. But we are yet to imbibe these principles.Last October, it was #EndSARS. Today, it is #KeepitOn. I wonder what tomorrow's hashtag will be? Hopefully not another protest hashtag. Because one thing that's become apparent in the face of countless systemic challenges Nigerians face is that we'll never back down.Ā Like the great singer-songwriter,Ā Timi Dakolo said, "We're all we have, we'll defend our land."Hadassah EgbediEditor, Ventures Africa
