Hello Venturer,"Until the lion has its own storyteller, tales of hunting will always glorify the hunterâ- African ProverbI first came across this African proverb while reading the revered Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Back in college, my teacher told me that it was a counter-narrative to the distortion of the African image in Joyce Cary's Mister Johnson. Achebe's narrative reconfigured my brain to appreciate the beauty of being African. Are you wondering if this is a literary class? Well, no.We are in the 21st century, and we have a young African championing the need to revisit history with her organisation, AFA-AFA (Africans for Africa). This young woman, Kamdi Okonjo, emphasizes the need for Africans to know their past to help fix the present and create a better future.Kamdi preaches the Ubuntu ideology, "I am because we are." She hopes to unite, educate, uplift, and inspire African youths, equipping them with the tools necessary to create meaningful solutions to the continent's current problems.
